Turning the family tradition into Be Well Beef!

We have been working towards this for a solid year….that's right 365 days of rising with the sun, watering, moving cattle from pasture to pasture, braving the negative temperatures, breaking ice, and pressing repeat, all for you. Here's why...

Alberta agriculture runs 5 generations deep in our family - on both sides. Our kids are generation #6. But agriculture isn't what it used to be, and family ranches are dwindling while big business takes over. There's no shortage of young people willing to grow food to feed our country, it's just too hard to get established and succeed at doing it. We are among the few still scrapping to survive as a family ranch in Alberta.

We have been aware of the need for change on our ranch for years, but in 2021 we began really searching for solutions. Then in 2022 we formed Be Well Beef, the direct sale arm of our beef operation.

As you know it is not very easy to get beef direct from a rancher, which is why we are gathering together a unique group of people who have direct access to us! We started raising grass fed beef literally before it was cool, as a cow / calf operation. This means our planning starts at birth. The beef you are getting access to through Be Well Beef is cattle that we have raised by hand specifically for you.

In the past we’ve raised these same cattle with love and care only to send them off to auction where they end up in a confined pen being pumped full of all the things we work hard to avoid. Year after year we watched as the cattle auction market, that was out of our control, dwindled in profits to the point where we had to make a choice. We had to take a stand. Do we continue this way and eventually go bankrupt and watch as another family farm bites the dust, or do we make a stand and cut out the middleman and connect directly to the public?
